Hi,
because so many people asked me how the first race went, it was no good.
To make it short - the car didn't pass scruteneering.
The main problem was the cage.
At several places the tubes were not welded up at full circumference.
They also found cracks on the driver's side where the rear axle is attached
to the cage.
The other things like battery on the codrivers seat, liquids in the drivers
compartment, door locks, side windows the team solved within a few hours.
We also organized a cage welding company which showed up for high costs at
3am in the night for welding the cage and write to the scruteneers that the
cage is okay now.
But that didn't help. The scruteneer was very impressed about the work of
the team the next morning but he asked, where is the certification and I
showed him the cars logbook again.
He said, this is nothing, just a description of the material and diameters
and who build it but where are the drawings which are shown in a
certification?
I pulled up my shoulders and he explained further:
If you would race on the GP track we might would let you go out now but on
the dangerous Nordschleife with that fast car we need a certification for
the cage or hell will break lose if you get hurt in that car.
So the car was parked in the paddock and rested there the 3 days.
Seems major work needs to be done to make it usable in Europe. I've got a
list with 8 items to cure and a report was sent to the German ASN that the
TR8 has no permission to race in Germany until it is presented again in a
proper race able condition.
What really bothers me is that my mails to the Canadian ASN with questions
about the cage and a certification were ignored.
Cheers
Chris
