No CNC equipment either, just a manual lathe and mill. I will have to send 
out for broaching and heat treating though.

I am not that familiar with workings of a DL, but it sounds like a candidate 
for reverse engineering to SolidWorks and then feed it into CNC equipment.

I assume there's some springs and other off the shelf hardware.
