[Fot] Regions of the US

Good Morning All:

Over the past several weeks there has been much discussion as to what region
of the US should we hold the Kastner Cup race in 2015. A good many
electrons have been sent down the Information Super Highway regarding a
definition of the East, West, Midwest etc.

As the country expanded from colonial times the "west" was that region just
beyond the area cleared of native folk and settled into towns and farms.
Since we made to the Pacific Ocean the definitions of 'regions' have been
made on linguistic, geologic, biological, ethnic, demographic and political
variables. However, to our rescue is the National Geographic Society and a
consensus map of "United States Regions" as attached. Based on this map the
2013 race was held in the Midwest and the 2014 race will be held in the
Southwest. The leading candidates for the race in 2015 are largely in the
Midwest and Southeast. It is not surprising that a good many of the Cup
races have been held in the Midwest and Southeast, these are the most
populated areas of the country containing most of the race tracks suitable
for our big event and the folks that race.

Hopefully a common definition of the regions will allow us better move the
race around to be fair to all sections of the country and give all of us a
chance to race on great tracks we otherwise might not get a chance to visit.

Cheers, Ken
