I second that. If a harmonic balancer isn't needed on the tr4 then why have
it? I'm all about taking
some rotating mass off the motor because what I have now is solid stainless
steel and it's pretty heavy.
Bud R mentioned the blower drive pullies are available from Moss which use a
serpentine belt.
If not using the blower a shorter serpentine belt would have to be sourced but
no big deal.
I had no luck finding Gilmer drive pullies for the TR4 and I assume the one or
two I have seen in the
past were custom.

Is it necessary to have a crank dampener installed on an engine with a
billet steel crankshaft?
If not, I would remove the dampener/pulley and replace the V-belt drive with
a Gilmer drive. With only a small Gilmer pulley and a disc with timing marks
on the crankshaft, the Gilmer drive parts would make for B  4 lbs less weight
than the V-belt installation. Can the lack of a dampener be the cause of a
broken crankshaft?

I have the Moss B= pulley and belt conversion with the rubber joint on the
crank pulley/dampener.

Kas warned me at Elkhart lake that these can separate and with that I would
like to explore higher quality

crank dampeners. We installed an ATI super damper on Mark Edenbs car and
there are three things about it I donbt like.

B B  B 1. Cost + $ 500.00
B B  B 2. They are not clocked correctly for the TR4 and a new timing pointer
needs to be fitted in a less than ideal position.
B B  B 3. With the engine installed there is only B<b clearance to the
steering rack.

So with that I have been looking at OEM and aftermarket dampeners/balancers
for other cars but I just donbt know

enough about machining to determine if it would be worth trying to machine a
balancer from another make to fit the TR4.

While on the subject of pullies in general Ibm wondering what others have
done with non-Triumph parts.

I would prefer a serpentine belt. I know I could fit a good quality
tensioner but still stuck on fitting non-triumph pullies

to the TR-4.

Can anyone advise on this subject ?
