[Fot] J-tpe OD enhancements for racing

I remember a lime green TR3 at road america circa 1971 at an
early regional. He qualified front row, maybe pole. It sounded
like he shifted about 4 times between canada corner and the Mitchell bridge.
Nice crisp, hard fast shifts for about 4 laps, then the o'dr upshifts got
pretty lazy and his times fell of a bit and a bathtub passed him. Curses!
He needed a bit more enhancement (for his overdrive).
Anybody know who the TR3 driver was?

Not necessarily. Over Drive Spares in the UK produces a competition spring
for the A-Type which will get you in the 450 lb. range. Unless you are
having slippage issues there is no need for more pressure! Pressure will
only provide hold power and does not effect the speed of operation to any
noticeable effect. Be extremely careful if using shims because if you
venture just a tad too far, which is not much you will block the relief port
and possibly break your overdrive unit!

Will replacing the TR spring with an AH 3000 spring get more pressure
without the need for shims?

You too, huh? Just to expand a bit, make sure there is enough travel before
coil bind to fully uncover the relief hole (or holes). The pressure was
fine on the bench ...
