The carbs that came on Sunbeam Alpines were 150 CD, 1
1/2" throttle bore.
Using the 175 CD carbs 0n a TR-6 can certainly be
done successfully, but be sure to change the mixture
needles. Using the TR-4 needles on a 2.5 liter
engine will result in to rich a mixture that will end
up washing down the cylinders with fuel and premature
engine wear. The larger engine "sucks harder" on the
carburetors. The vacuum generated over the jet goes
up as the square of the air velocity. The carbs have
no "air corrector" jet to prevent the mixture going
overly rich at high load, ie. high intake air
velocity. Leaner needles need to be fitted. Compare
the needle profile of the 2A needle in the TR-4 carb
with that of the needle in a TR-6 carb. The
difference is not all because of emissions.

Adjustable 175 Strombergs were also available on
early Sunbeam Alpines.
