Yup, we've done that, too, and it works.

Yet, we'd like to take a step further.

Greg Solow interjects some thoughtful observations that may be incorporated
into the design, eventually..

Keep the comments and interest coming....we have about 8 responses in about 4
hours. There must be an interest.

There seems to be an opportunity to relieve some stresses from the
gearbox....stresses that have been known to crack bellhousings. Stresses that
might not be very good for the gearbox internals, either. Time to think
outside the GEARBOX, as it were.

 A short length of "angle iron" with a half inch hole in it fastened under the
tailshaft boss on each side, with the flat face butted up against the end of
the mount, to take the lateral loads.
This is pretty much SOP, easy to do, and works great.
