I don't think I'd want to drive a TR2 in the rain on bias plies if I had the
option of using radial tires instead. Modern tires are much more resistant to
hydroplaning (and the Vredesteins on my Morgan Plus 8 are not great in this
regard) and I seem to recall that TR3s on original tires don't tolerate sloppy
downshifts, which can cause the rear end to lose traction and cause a spin.
On the other hand, you could practice 4-wheel drifts...
Isn't the spare tire well too small for 165s? My (hazy) recollection is that
this is why I kept the original spare in our '56 TR3.
