Gasket sealing is a dynamic deal. The axial camping force minus  the combustion chamber pressure is obviously key.  No sealing agent will overcome less than adequate head studs.  If the liners are too proud or off between each other  seepage of oil and coolant will occur with head lift during load.  Stock compression and thick stock head gaskets are very forgiving.  Race motors are not.  MLS head gaskets were designed with intent of sliding along each portion as expansion of the head and block occur @ different rates (alum head/ iron block). Some gaskets need retorquing during warm up. 
Sealants come in various flavors. The holy grail is yet to be found. But there good products out there.  I have tested many. I'm not going to detail results here. Solid  Copper hg's are not for everyone.  Some people have nothing but problems, some love them. I use them --- go figure. Work for me. Perhaps I am exacting when it comeS to liner protrusion. 

For the tr tractor engine symetrical liner height  is crucial. Using a steel metal hg keep the protrusion no less than .003" more than .005" will likely be an immediate problem.

Gasket dressing varies

We have done most all with reasonable success....except Cometic.

Surprised at limited number of responses..... and the variety of solutions.

Perhaps gasket sealing is a non issue or everyone is busy changing head
gaskets.

It appears that OEM style is understandably the most forgiving, but concern
remains that it might not work well with the typically modified head.

I suppose we should assume that all surfaces and assemblies are in spec.

I'd like to see a Cometic and try it...we have one on order but will not
receive it in time for this engine assembly.

Anyother comments.....??
