I agree.  Total has to be (approximately) 3 ohms, doesn't matter if it's
a 3
ohm coil, or a 1.5 ohm coil plus a ballast resistor.
Other combinations may appear to work at first, but risk burning out the
module (1.5 ohm with no ballast), or producing high speed misfire (3 ohm
plus a ballast).

Note that the red wire to the module needs to get full 12v, it can't be
to
the coil if you are using a ballast between there and the switch.
