Won't hurt the carbs unless there is a very aggressive solvent in there.
But you might want to double-check with your buddy first.

Many years ago, a friend of mine tried to clean some brake shoes in an
ultrasonic bath where we both worked night shift.  It ruined not only the
shoes (by dissolving the bonding to the lining), but all of the parts they
made the next day turned out bad!

I wonder why?
