The AN spec ( Army - Navy ) sizes are based on 1/16th of an inch.
A -4 is 4/16ths ID, or 1/4 inch.  -6 is 6/16ths. or 3/8ths.  AN flares
are 37 degree cones, and are good for many make and break cycles
without leaking.

Pegasus ( pegasusautoracing.com ) has some technical info on
their web page, as I recall, which might prove helpful.  I've
not looked at it in a while.
