This might be a good time to mention that work continues on a single axle
trailer design incorporating a 3500# axle with a light weight frame, built
strong.
The first design is complete and 'in production'. Deluxe Version seen in
photobucket.com/ambro page 2/3
$1875 base price Under $3000 nicely optioned What color do you want?
The happiest towing I ever had was with a single axle purpose built TR4
Trailer. The very best of it was a trailer with NO springs.....letting the
car suspension absorb the bumps. Low, narrow, hand manueverable, garageable,
this trailer is still in use after passing through several hands over a 20
year period.

An X3 is good for 3748 pounds according to the guides
http://www.trailerlife.com/images/elements/883783_Towing_Guide.pdf
That is about the same as my Dodge Caravan 3800 pounds.
You still need a light weight trailer to tow a car that weighs about 2000
ounds plus spares, tools etc.

I use a simple petrol injected BMW X3 for towing. 200 HP doing well enough.
