I too am towing with an Avalanche. On my 2nd one in fact (2006 1500, we gave
the 2002 to the in-laws). Towing 24' enclosed trailer with whatever we're
racing/working on this weekend in it (FV, Nissan 200sx LeMons car, TR6,
etc).

IMHO, the 2002 is the one to own. The interior is a bit more comfy. The 1500
front brake disks warp on all of them, think about upgrading to the brake
calipers/rotors from the 2500 if need be.

Another alternative is to find a well loved ambulance. Preferably one owned
by a volunteer rescue squad as they take better care of vehicles. Our squad
just sold off a 6 year old Ford E350 Type III (the kind with the box on the
back) turbo diesel for $4k or so. 100k miles and still going strong. I
strongly considered buying it but it has this _nasty_ squeak in the steering
column that drove me _nuts_ on a several hour transport once. Easily fixed
with a new bushing, but just the memory put me off :)
