Marty -

there is a prepared Spitfire 1500 autocrossing in our region with a welded
diff - he is very quick and sometimes sets FTD - he's never had a problem
with it, other than trying to make a sharp turn into a grid spot

Cheers,
Jack Mc

Dunno what the 300ZX setup is. Mine's essentially a GT6 diff, big case,
big
axles, 4:55 gearset, and pushed higher up in the chassis (new holes) than
stock.

It's welded up. Used to have a No-Spin limited slip until I just used that
sucker up to where it just wasn't repairable any more.

With the No-Spin I'd snap an inner axle about once a year, even big axles.
Welded it up then because I couldn't find an affordable limited-slip then.

With the welded-up unit I've broken two inner axles in the 15+ years I've
had it, both times in road races.

But mostly I autocross and it works just fine. Very predictable. The only
"problem" is pushing it in the paddock and trying to turn. Frankly, at
this
point, I don't think I'd go back to the limited slip even though I can
afford what's on the market now.
