>From the data available on the Valvoline website, there does not appear
to be a difference in zinc and phosphorus content between grades of the
VR1 SM oil. All are listed at 0.14/0.13 (don't know the units). Follow
this link for a product data sheet.

I could not find the same level of detail on their synthetic racing oil.

I could be wrong but I think that the 20-50W oils like Valvoline VR1
have
added the zinc back in, but formulations graded less than 20W have not.
I
think that once they took the zinc out, the engines damage began to
occur,
word got out and eventually sales got hurt. Since the 20-50W oils are
to be
used in late model cars that could have emissions components damaged the
oil
companies probably saw the light and put the zinc back in. I'd make sure
that
any 5 or 10w oil had the zinc or I'd add it. The cheap solution in VR1,
as it
now costs the same as most good oils, $3.99 a quart.

Betreff: [Fot] Oil weights?
I've been running 20-50 Brad Penn (high zinc) for the last season, but
as I'm about to order some for the upcoming season, I'm wondering
whether the engine really needs 20-50, as opposed to 10-40. Used
exclusively for racing, engine with fairly tight bearing clearances
(when assembled).
