I have to agree with Tony.  Whether it be car parts or complete cars, concrete
sweats and accelerates rust.  Climate controlled storage would be the first
choice but expensive.  For most people wood should be the first choice with
packed dirt your second choice (under roof of course).  If you're going to
store on concrete for an extended period (like you have) I put cheap plywood
down to absorb the moisture.

Tommy might rent you some storage space cheap. :-)

Amici,

We have a bunch of spare engine blocks laying around the shop and I'm
wondering what is the best way to store them.  I normally set them on
a block of wood but I'm wondering if setting them on concrete might
not be better.

Any other suggestions?
