[Fot] HEADER for a TR4

When I bought my TR4, it had the fiberglass header wrap on it. A neighbor who
races RMVR saw it and said I should take it off. He races a 70 Cuda, and said
he
had melted a set of expensive headers with the wrap. I figured a Cuda
with over
500 horses must generate a lot more heat than this little tractor
motor, so I
continued on.

Late one afternoon, my son and I were working on
the car and he pointed me to a
glowing red section above the collector. It
actually looked like it could have
melted any minute. We removed the wrap
and the glow went away, and then as a
surprise, the boys removed the header
and had it ceramic coated by a shop up
near Denver as a Christmas present. I
think it cost them about $150 bucks to
get it done. The old header looks
pretty good and it is coated inside and out.
It really seems to keep
the keep the heat out of the engine compartment.

Anyway, food for thought for
those of you using the wrap.

And just when you think you're getting ahead, ,,,,

I was putting
in the new springs and noticed the header wrap was hanging loose
so I cut it
off, an hour or so later when I was finishing up the shocks I
noticed a crack
in the header (where I cut the wrap off earlier) so I pulled
the header off
unwrapped it completely and found most of the number 2 tube
missing along the
bottom (rotted)
Ted (TSI) has found me one across the pond but it's a bit
pricey, Stahl seems
to have a nice one but it's also a bit steep. Anyone know
of a header for
sale anywhere???
my muffler guy doesn't have a die with that
tight a radius and even if he did
he'd end up making the whole thing over so
he can weld it.
Thanks
