I checked my factory parts manuals and the constant pinion shaft and gear
cluster part #'s are the same for the 2 litre Vitesse and early GT6. I
think the 1.6 litre car would be a wider ratio and non-syncro 1st.

Right, Alan! The 2L (all-synchro) Vitesse/GT6 gearbox has a 2.65:1 1st
gear, compared to 2.93:1 on the older, non-synchro-first Vitesse 1600/Sports 6
box. Other forward ratios are the same And, of course, boxes can't be
swapped directly between Spitfire and GT6, since the input shaft is a larger
diameter on the GT6 (amongst other detail differences).

*Mrs Irrelevant: Oh, is it a jet?
*Man: Well, no ... It's not so much of a jet, it's more your, er, Triumph
Herald engine with wings.
