I have broken a cam and also heard of this with others - identified cause 
was an out of tolerance bearing, we believe a duff batch made for the major 
'Specialist' here in the UK.

Similarly out of tolerance bearing caused rapid failure of cam on road car 
of TR Register member here in the UK - again cause confirmed to be forward 
bearing badly manufactured and allowing the cam to move up to 1/4 inch.
