Micheal,

I suspect the alignment caused the rotor & pad damage but I still can't get
the brakes to bleed

and get the pedal back where it wants to be. I pushed almost two quarts of
fresh fluid through

over the weekend. I'm going to get new Wilwood masters to start with.

All I haveB in the front circuit is the line splitter that runs to the left &
right calipers.B

This past weekend the RMVR had itbs inaugural race at High Plains Raceway.

Over the course of three days I absolutely thrashed what started out as
pristine

front rotors. Day one I noticed the car was skittish under heavy braking,
then

my brake pedal got soft. Several attempts to bleed them were made with no
luck.

During one of those attempts I notice my front tires were heavily worn on the

inside edge. I checked my front alignment and I went from my standard 1/8b
toe

out to 5/8b toe out. I must have upset the steering rack during my last
engine change.
Hmm. Could be. 5/8" toe-out is whole helluva lot.B  My guess is that it put a
lot of lateral force on the wheels, hubs and rotors which was causing the pads
to continuously scrub the rotors, thus making a lot of unanticipated heat,
which is also the likely cause of the brake pedal going soft--if there's more
heat than can be normally dissipated, it's going to go into the pads and
calipers and get transmitted to the fluid.B  The fact that you got a good
pedal and a proper bleed later, when the system was cold, seems to confirm
that.


I understand that the course also has a number of elevation changes, and the
additional downhill braking might have made the problem even worse.
