Not the same issue, but a similar one.  Changing the bearings in a Stag
differential a few months back, I found I had to remove almost .030" worth
of shims to get back to the original clearance.  The replacement was thicker
than the original (which was slightly worn, but certainly nowhere near .030"
worth).

Only that one bearing was different; all the others matched the originals.
Don't recall the brand offhand, but it was a name brand like NTN or Timken,
not some offshore clone.
