Yes, it can.  There is an upgrade kit available (about
$70, if I recall correctly).  It is very easy to install.
I did it to mine, and highly recommend doing the
conversion.  It makes it much easier to turn your
head and see the corner workers when you spin
off track (not that I'd ever do that, of course).
