After trying every valve spring compressor, resorted to wrench and block of
wood.  About three fingernails full of black gunk, must be age old oil and gas
accumulated in the # 5 intake valve port and all over the valve stem making it
very sticky.  I am very relieved that there was little damage beyond one of
the shims.  The car should run a lot better once I get everything back
