>From my experience running a GT6 box in a Spitfire, the two biggest problems
are the looooong throw from 2nd to 3rd and the slow synchro's, but those are
problems relating to lap times.  The only mechanical problems I've had with
the box are related to the 3rd gear retaining clip (always install a new
one) and tearing up synchros.

Out of curiousity, what's the weak(est) link in the Spitfire/GT6 gearbox?
Mainshaft bearings?  Laygear needles?  ??

The difference in reliability between a TR gearbox and a GT6 gearbox, even
with TR7 internals, is night and day...
