Back in England, at the A/H works, those "Unwashed Mechanics" were known as 
"thickos", and used to run "shade tree teams" against the works team.  
Hence, with help and urging from Wm. Severin Thompson, in the vintage family we 
have "Team Thicko" in their honor.
