[Fot] Death & racing

Leon,

Point taken. For me the distinction is... recognizing the dangers vs
obsessing about them.

When I melted a piston and the car filled with smoke in turn 1 at TWS at
100+ mph.. my immediate thought was "well, I've had a fun life so far, so if
this is the end, so be it".

That was in immediate crisis mode. The car kept running, the smoke cleared
and I drove the car back to the paddock to toss it on the trailer.

It's only been time and money that have kept me from getting back on track.
Not fear of the grim reaper. I respect the gent and I know I will meet him
someday. It doesn't stop me from doing the the things I like.

And I hope to raise my son to also enjoy racing, in whatever form is still
allowed 20 years from now. Darned carbon footprint radicals!

Cheers,

Jim
Dallas

If you start thinking about death and racing at the same time you had best
take up another sport like snooker.

My dear old Father, God rest his soul, spent his autumn years on the bowling
green involved with the terribly dangerous English sport of lawn bowling.

I well recall his telling me about the match he was having with poor old
'Bob' who was well into his 90s, my dad took his shot and turned round to
ask Bob when he was going to take his turn, only to find him lying stone
dead on the grass.

That sport was a true killer, it took them all one after another.

But the point is, they died doing what they loved, and that surely beats
dying n your sleep in a care home with Alzheimer's!
