[Fot] Tr3 steering shaft

I'm about to get a quick release steering wheel shaft welded to my existing steering shaft.  The part that was ordered is bigger in diameter than the shaft itself. Does this mean I could not ever fix the steering box, should the need arise because the shaft pulls out from the front?  Do I need to get a quick release unit with an end that's the same dia. As the shaft and not bigger?
