The running clearance for any particular profile is a critical part of the  
overall design. It's based largely on accelerations (both ways) & if the  
clearance ramp isn't correct there will be conflicting forces in the valve  train, 
& resultant wear/breakage.
I advise following cam manufacturers specs. Assuming that weights,  geometry, 
ratio, materials, etc are all to spec, this will give the best  results.

and ended up with hammered valve stems. I now run .015 intake  and .016 
exhaust with good results. CR is 11.8:1.
