It was certainly de rigeur "back in the day" - no transporters for
the factory teams, especially the sports car drivers.

The caption that Klementaski put on it was "at 180 mph on the way
to Brescia for the Mille Miglia, the wind almost tore my arm
out of its socket while taking this photo".

Hard to fathom, actually.
