Hi Chuck,



The springs are 650 lbs all round; I will have to take a front and rear out
to give you lengths.



I use both a front and rear sway bar and both were designed and built by Jon
Wood of Classic RaceCraft and are > in diameter.

Do, in SOVERN, the following would be illegal:
+60 pistons [40=max]
Any Webers [PI or two Strombergs only allowed]
Roller rockers
Maybe the tranny case
Rear Konis [must use levers]
Wilwood vented rotors
Glass panels [any]


So, what rate springs do you use [ponds/inch if possible] and what are their
free lengths?  Do you use a rear sway bar?

Just got back from yet another business trip and have just picked up on the
cars for the Glen eligibility debate. I don't intend to voice an opinion
either way but I would like to let you all know what is in my UK TR6 when
compared to yours; hopefully this might set the record straight about the
Brit cars. For those of you who know these things my modified Red/Silver TR6
placed 4th overall at M-O in the hands of Jon wood in 2002 and won outright
at VIR in 2004.

My TR6 has:

Engine: Triumph TR6 block with a full steel engine running Omega +60 pistons
(makes it around 2600 cc), has Carrillo rods, a billet crank, steel caps,
Cambridge Motorsports steel flywheel, Classic RaceCraft cam, triple 45 DCOE
Webbers, roller rockers, ported and flowed head and large valves, luminiton
ignition 200bhp - nothing trick just built by Jon Wood of Classic RaceCraft
for the princely sum of c $20k.

Gearbox: Triumph Stag casing (for strength), dog gears, no overdrive,
Quartermaster clutch.

Diff: Triumph diff with Salisbury LSD and 3.9:1 CWP (or 4.1:1 depending on
circuit).

Suspension: Adjustable koni shocks all round (rear lever arms where
terrible), up rated springs and poly bushes.

Brakes: Standard rear drums, up rated Willwood ventilated rotors and 4 pot
callipers (these do make a big difference).

Body: All original steel panels except for GRP hood, trunk lid, drivers door
and all 4 wings and hardtop - all up weight is 930 kgs which is only 94kgs
less than a standard road car.

Wheels: 6" Compomotive running Yokohama A008R 205/60/15 tyres.

The winning TR5 at M-O was the same specification as it was also built by
Jon Wood; it is lighter than mine at around 875kgs that's all.

The TR8s are different as they run up to 4.0 litres and around 300bhb as
well as GRP panels; had Vern Brannon and Jon Wood not tangled at M-O then
Vern would have won in his modified TR8 (slicks, no weight and 400+ bhp) by
a country mile.

At VIR we were the only wet race; it rained as we gridded up and being a
Brit that was to my advantage - we get loads of practice in the wet over
here :-)  - and I took a narrow victory from 2 rather special and well
driven spitfires.

As you can see there is no big secret to this car; it will be coming over in
2012 for the 60th anniversary race where it will be driven by my son; I am
going to take him on in my US TR4 and, hopefully, apply experience over
youth and beat him. I will be happy to show this car to any of you guys just
to show you that it is not that special and that all of the parts are
available to the 6 cylinder runners over in the US (and I know there are
some very rapid 6 cylinder cars over there already).

As I said at the beginning; just trying to set the record straight.

Yes, you have a point.  The guys from England are a great group but they do
not recognize our view and recognition of "Vintage".
