[Fot] Alignment tools for TR6

What are some good (preferably cheap and/or homemade) alignment tools for
toe and camber?  When the string is used to measure toe, what part of the
car is it set up as parallel to?  Is this way of measuring toe better than
measuring the tire/wheel comparing back to front?  Thanks for any tips guys,
