I use personal cooling devices for controlling the affects of heat on my
Multiple Sclerosis. I have a vest that holds several "Blue Ice" type
packets, front and back. Have never tried it with all of them in place.
The one I use the most is across the shoulders. Carry the frozen packs in
a cooler fitted with a little extra  insulation and a couple of pounds of
dry ice. Can refreeze a pack and gets them through a race weekend pretty
well.

Some of the Gel type media remain reasonably soft when frozen, so its not
a rock like mass. DO keep some fabric between the pack and your skin. An
excellent application for Nomex underwear.
