  I also have a modified TR-6 with an American V-type engine.  My car is powered by a pumped-up Buick V6.  I intentionally chose the short V6 instead of a longer V8 to avoid interference with the rack and pinion steering and the TR-6's stock front cross member.
   
  I am an autocrosser so I was also very concerned about the assembled weight of American V8 engines, and chose the Buick bent six because with an aluminum intake manifold it only weighs about 400 pounds assembled.  If your customer must have the heavier roughly 600 pound Ford V8 engine I would suggest that the foot well modifications required to move the engine rearward will be quickly repaid by the improved balance of the finished car.
   
  Hopefully your customer is also considering how to address the added stress that a large displacement American V-type engine will apply to the chassis and drive train.  My Buick V6 powered TR-6 required a chassis brace / roll cage sub-assembly before it would accelerate straight after a hard up-shift.  The 231 cubic inch engine I installed also required stronger components for the drive shaft, differential, half-shafts, rear suspension, and rear stub axles before it could make effective use of the power that a pumped-up Buick V6 can deliver.

steering rack forward by 1/2 inch. I have a customer who is placing a Ford 302
V8 in his TR6 and wants me to move the rack for clearance of the fan pulley.
My concern is what will it do the bump steer equation and if I move it, should
I lower or raise it??
