From redroadsterman at gmail.com Fri Jan 1 06:57:09 2021 From: redroadsterman at gmail.com (Joseph Berkenbile) Date: Fri, 1 Jan 2021 08:57:09 -0500 Subject: [Roadsters] Speedo drive Message-ID: Looking for help with speedo gear. I have a 69 1600 and the speedo drive gear does not turn the cable. The pinion was a bit worn, so I bought a new one, installed it, still doesn't work. Took the pinion back out, and looked in the hole where it mounts and I can see that the drive gear on the main shaft is not in the correct place to engage the pinion. Several years ago I purchased a 65-67.5 tail housing assembly from Rallye as the shifter mechanism was worn out. I also had a transmission from a 70, and combined parts from it with the 69 so now I have parts from 3 different series. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I see from the parts catalog that the drive gear is the same on all, but the mains shafts that the drive gear goes on are different. I don't plan to pull the transmission just to fix this, but when I do have a reason to pull it, I would like to make it work. OR, someone can sell me a working 5-speed! Thanks in advance. Obviously a mid production car since it's a high windshield but it has no side marker lights. Someone with more experience with Roadsters than I have can probably tell, but you're going to need that info anyway. I've had a couple of 2000s and a number of 510s. Lots of good Roadster info on the 311s.org website You need a lot more pictures. I'd suggest looking at current and past Datsun Roadster, both 1600 and 2000, auctions on Bring-a-Trailer to get an idea of the types of pictures needed. This will also give you some idea of what they're selling for, and you might consider selling it on BaT.
