They were in a box when I bought the car. I just spent a few minutes looking at pictures and I'm debating on what to do. Looks like they should be horizontal, front to back. Seems like its hard to open that way? I was considering back to front with a slight slope, obvious being very careful to stay out of the way of the window winders. It just seems like they would work better if you were pulling them down, almost towards you. in these pictures it just seems hard to open the door if the door opener is horizontal like that. And then I found a car where they are vertical, bottom to top. That seems like a good idea, too Thoughts? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Season 16 Episode 12.There are 2 British guys, one a pretty fair restoration mechanic. The other is the shows clown like a "chumley" that finds and buys the cars and of coarse sells them at a profit. The car was a 69 roadster. First you don't know what it really is because it has a 1600 grill, U20 engine and NO side markers. The mechanic does a really great job doing an idler arm re bush and front end rebuild. Tig welded the header and front pipe. A REALLY great part on fitting VOLVO brakes to the front with prices. Also rebork on the brake peddle arm for people with BIG FEET. Really informative. The car had no top frame. Chumley found one and the upholstery shop did a great job showing a frame refinish with a heat gun. That alone made the show worth while for me. I learned something. They redid the seats in correct material. ?The bad parts. Car had J C Whitney mirrors. REALLY CRAPPY red side trim. A front bumper made of chrome twigs from a lawn shed. In correct lights and grill.?Claimed to sell the car for $14000. They do some great cars though. One on the Volvo Amazon was pretty good. While at the national level, in the east at least, Bob Sharp's major competitor was Bob Tullius in his Group 44 TRs, but at the lower levels I did quite well against all of them. Had a better top speed than most and could out drag them all, so at a fast track like Bridgehampton I always did well, but with the 'cart' suspension and power oversteer with a Detroit Locker at high speeds that can wear you down, had to work harder at places like Lime Rock. Of course at that level of competition the state of tune was a big contributor to performance and there were still folks with near stock cars back then, and I did have a Sharp prepared engine. Don't think I ever went up against a really fully prepared 911. But then again they were never a problem for the Datsuns and Triumphs at the national level. Interesting history stuff. One thing that I got out of the Jay Leno video was the relative simplicity of boosting the early 911?s air-cooled boxer engine. His builder swapped in larger-bore cylinders and pistons and a longer-stroke crank to increase the displacement to 2.5L, and added high-performance heads (dual-plug, larger valves).
