Greyhound is out, 100 lb max. 

Fastenal says $182, store to store. Is there anyone on this list who lives near Savannah/Richmond Hill who would be interested in taking the crated transmission from a residence to the Fastenal office? $$ is available. 

I can hire a delivery company to do it but thought there might be someone on list who is interested. (Crate is 175 lbs & seller can?t help load.)

After many years I?m planning to crank up ole 99 this summer, my 67 ? Solex
SRL. I remember the original battery was a group 24C, which is no longer
available. The measurements on the current group 24 and 24F are quite close,
and both Odyssey and Optima offer a group 34 that is also close, but not as
high. I?d like to still use the original hold downs that I have.
Recommendations on what you guys are using?

I have been using the battery from an 89 Miata.  It?s a bit smaller in all
dimensions, and much more importantly, a lot lighter.  Yes, I?m getting
older and those things are heavy!!!  I?ve got them in several old
sportscars, including the roadster, and they work just fine.

Recommendations on what you guys are using?

I tried a couple Miata batteries years ago & they didn?t last long. The sides of the batteries caved in. This was in Texas, so I suspect the engine compartment heat was the problem. They are designed to live in the trunk.

Jerry,

I used an Optima type 51R for as long as that lasted, about 6-7 years, 
then went with an Odyssey PC680 dry cell housed in a lay-down frame, 
where the OEM battery was located. I can recommend both, but I am 
spoiled by the Odyssey.

With all due respect, I've been running miata batteries in the engine compartment of my TR6 and TR4 for years with no problems.  Likely was the brand you used.  I buy mine at Walmart or Costco.  And, btw, I'm in Dallas.

The original Miata batteries, at least through the C, were made by Panasonic, and only shipped with new Miatas. They lasted a looooong time (12 years for us). 

You cannot buy that battery in North America. Even the replacement batteries from the Miata dealers are OEM'd from US battery makers. IIRC, there's only two or three left that make all the "regular" lead acid batteries.... just different labels for the end vendors. 

I'm thinking of using one of the lightweight Lithium batteries made by Braille. Downside is cost. Otherwise, I'll just go with an Interstate from Costco like I did for the Boxster and Ranger.

I guess you can't buy the oem battery, but you can easily buy that size.  btdt many times.  Have several in several cars, including my roadster.  They are not "original" miata batteries; they are after market

This is a bit embarrassing, but I want to check on distributor/oil pump
rotation.  Years ago I purchased from someone on this list, can't remember
who., a shaft that turns the oil pump with a drill after removing the
distributor. I thing you have to turn it counter-clockwise, but just want to
make sure.

That?s what I remember too. The firing order will be in the same direction if you still have the spark plug wires on.

You just cut off the handle of a screw driver then put the shaft in your drill. Rum counter clockwise and observe if oil gets to the rockers.

Hot summer evening in San Jose. Last Wednesday I met up with Peter and his
1967.5 SPL. We did a quick blast up Skyline. Chatted at the vista point
until mosquitoes ambushed us. Loved the silver/red combo and JT Stainless
(twin-pipe) exhaust.
Switched roadsters. It was refreshing to drive a stock 1600, and reminded
me how cool these cars are. I think the drive also may have changed his
mind about selling :)

I used Fastenal. $187. 50 from savanna, Ga to San Marcos, Tx. This was dock to dock. I paid an additional $75 to get it to the shipping Fastenal. 

Piece of cake. If I need to ship anything again, I?ll check with them first.

As we all debate the value of our beloved Roadster's and tear apart the unfortunate cars in need of love and attention, the Japanese collector car market is looking bright.?

I've enjoyed the Roadster community for over 10 years made life long friends and memories with the car. Our Roadster sold on Hemmings at full value after 2 days on the site (never made it to print). The car will be shipped to Belgium and represent a novice/garage build from the US.?

  ?Minimal rust? Easy to tell, because there?s minimal paint, too. And it's not a ?67, it?s a ?69 (high windshield, teardrop front side markers, round rear side markers). ?Running? ? not with the gas tank on the roof it isn?t. ;^)

That is a very nice car you sold. I saw pics from one of the shows it was in and always liked the stripes.  Same question as bob, how was the hemming sale process. 

Thinking of selling one of my 1600 cars, not as nice as yours but very decent driver.
