[Roadsters] voltage regulator issue

John,
I did use my volt meter and wiring diagram to track down the problem.  I had a blown fuse that I missed on my first inspection.

 Hi Dana,

If you have a voltmeter, you can test for voltage between any ground
point (any bare metal on the body - a screw, etc), and each of the two
spade clips. With ignition on there should be a constant +12v (give or
take) on one connector and a pulsing voltage (+12 / 0 / +12 / 0...) on
the other. If you have +12 on one side and a constant zero on the
other, the regulator is bad.

No constant +12 on one side means the problem is upstream of the
regulator (i.e. NOT the regulator)

If you don't have a meter but do have a clip lead or other means to
short the two spade clips together, you can do that (ignition OFF),
then when you turn the ignition on one or both gauges should start to
climb (assumption: you have some gas in the tank; the engine is warm).
Don't leave the ignition on for more than 5 to 10 seconds. Again, if
the gauges move then the regulator is bad.

You MAY be able to open the regulator and carefully clean the contacts
inside. But first, just try undoing the spade clips and reseating them
- it could just be a bad connection! (unlikely, but possible)
