Also check to see if you have a leak at the intake manifold where the carbs bolt on. Spray some carb cleaner while running and see if rpm changes. That has to be fixed before carbs can be balanced.

Gerry ,
The number one reason for rocking and or shaking Sporty car engines
,is Out of sync carbs and bad engine mounts .
Timing chains are not the place to start with that issue ,however ,that
doesn't mean you may not need timing chains .
Not many people know or realize that the U 20 timing chain system , due
to design short comings , are only good for
50 k + - , reliable use. You can sometimes run longer and also not as
long ,without problems ,or blown engines as a result,
usually caused by issues not corrected or managed in the design .
Back to shaking engines... You may need a SU tuning and setup person
to get it running well. Another known issue with the U20
are the Poor carb bushings issues. Another is trying to use late model
dizzys trying to run too much timing at idle . Anyways ,this
issue isn't a magic fix to repair.
Best Regards ,

Specialty Shop in Texas .

My mechanic says it might need a new timing chain which might be a good idea regardless. He tells me it's not related to engine mounts or anything like that. Just wanted to check to see if anyone else has had a similar issue before turning it over to him for an expensive timing chain job. Thanks for your help.
