Yes you have to be careful. I have never got burned on eBay. I trust people on the list too. 
I put out on the www and Volvo list I was looking for front KONIs for a Volvo 164 E GT I am building. Got a response from England.  Sounded good but got suspicious when he wanted money transfer.  So I asked for a picture of the box with the part #. He went silent. 
BTW found the Koni from a reliable guy
