My experience with this symptom has been a rusted gas tank.

I'm ninety-five percent sure a new fuel filter will
get you going again.
Since there's probably crud and slop in the tank, I'd
recommend you
carry a spare and the parts (screwdriver, towel) to change it.
In the
past I've run one of the clear glass filters so I could see when I was
picking up junk from the tank.

As far as oil in the SU's, that will
especially affect idle quality and
smooth acceleration. Specs call for 20
weight but you can
experiment with Marvel Mystery Oil, ATF, engine oil,
motorcycle
fork oil, salad dressing (ok, I'm kidding on the last one)...
