[Roadsters] Differentials

I agree with Dave. When I bought my 67.5 new, the torque curve of the Solex
cam combined with the 3.7 rear and the tall 1st gear ratio of the 5 speed
was not a good combination off the line. The first modification I made was
to install the Datsun LSD with the 4.38 ratio. It was like night and day.
Surprised a lot of guys in Detroit iron machines. Never thought the revs too
high in 5th at highway speed. Later when I went racing I installed a
Detroit Locker with 5.62 gears. With that combination could do 1/4 mile
under 15 seconds. (Of course that included some engine mods too). If I ever
put it back on the street I'd again go with the 4.38. BTW, still have the
original complete 3.70 in storage with less than a 1000 mile on it.

If you really want some stump pulling acceleration find a center section
from a 521 or 620 pick-up. The L16 to L20B trucks came with 4.375 gears.
You will need to swap the side gears from your Roadster diff, but it is a
simple process.Mike Klotz posted a thread on Ratsun with video showing the
details.
