You can hang a $10 voltmeter on the output up underneath the dash. I'd
connect the test leads with the key off, then turn on the power for a
reading.

In Richard's case, if you've got normal temperature gauge readings, the
regulator is probably working.

Same if your gas gauge still works.

In each case the failure is more likely to be in temp or fuel circuits.
