[Roadsters] recommendations for a switched power source

Lengthening the wire may be necessary but I would advise connecting it 
to the Ignition coil 12Vfeed.
As you may realise, the coil gets 12V when the key is in the ON or START 
position so that is what you need.
If you haven't got one yet, buy a little Digital Voltmeter. They are 
pretty cheap nowadays and very helpful.
