[Roadsters] Test

The pilot bearing is located in the centre counter bore of the engine 
fly wheel.
Sometimes it is a self lubricating bronze plain bearing sometimes it 
might be a tiny roller bearing.
The very tip of the gearbox main shaft engages in the pilot bearing to 
assist in keeping the main shaft centred and supported.
Without that little bearing the main shaft can wobble slightly as it 
rotates.
Eventually I guess the main shaft will trash the main shaft bearing due 
to the oscillations.
As for noise, I would guess you would experience a vibration more than 
hear anything.
I have not had a pilot bearing go so it is a known unknown to me:-P
The transmission and engine need to be separated to get to the pilot bearing
