Gary,

One exception to that is that the early Nissan oil cooler kits for the U20
used the old style cartridge type 1500 filter. Have one on my 6.5 SRL. BTW,
cartridge style is coming back, especially with European and Japanese Mfs.
The BMW, Volvo and Lexus in my stable all use the "old style'

"Old design" meaning a cannister type rather than spin-on?  If so you
must have 
a 1500 or a very early 1600.

You're getting ahead of yourself with
these questions.  Don't worry about an EI 
distributor or a new radiator until
you get the car running.  I have an EI 
distributor on my '67-1/2 2000, and it
works fine.  But, I still have 
point-and-coil ignition on my '66 1600/U20,
which also works fine.  My cars have 
never overheated with the original
radiators, so save your money unless and 
until you observe an overheating
problem.
