FWIW, i just cut up some of that foam stuff you sleep on when you go camping. I think that it is there mostly to stop the tank rattling about. Also, don't forget to check the wiki about changing the tank holding strap postions. It moves the weight from the boot/trunk to the chassis. cheers kiwi
