Jim,
Use the tube regardless of filter. Its purpose is to keep oil in the
galleries, so oil is supplied to the cam shaft bearings and chain tensioners
more quickly on start-up. Make sure the tube is as long as it can be
without "topping out" on the inside of whatever filter you are using.
