[Roadsters] Alternator Upgrade Update

This didn't seem to go through the first time so I'm sending again. Sorry if
you get duplicate emails.

Thanks for all the sugs and emails. Over the weekend I finally got to
working on my upgrade project. The biggest challenge was fitting the
connecting rod to the new 60 amp GM alternator. I ended up taking some metal
spacers and drilling them to fit within the larger alternator who on the GM.
I hacksawed the original mount and everything fit perfectly. I even kept my
existing fan belt. The mount worked great.

NOW, I'm very new to electrical systems so even though all the lit said the
wiring was easy, it took me a while to figure it out. The only thing was
that it now seems like the wiring had been modified by the PO. There already
existed a wire from the positive of the battery to the alternator positive.
I may be completely wrong, but it seems like the #2 connector from the
alternator plug goes back to the positive on the back of the alternator and
the #1 wire (white) goes to nothing. I had 2 sets of wires from the original
setup that now doesn't go to anything, the first being the wire previously
from the positive from the alternator to the starter. I guess I don't need
this anymore since I have the other wire going directly to the battery? The
second set is from the voltage regulator.
Lastly I have the ground wire going from the other bolt on the alternator to
one of the bolt of the mounting bracket.

I couldn't figure out where the fusible link should be added with my
different set up to protect the harness. Also my Ammeter was not connected
to anything. Is attaching the wires that bypassed the ammeter to a voltmeter
work?

Anything I should be considering to avoid frying my system?

BTW. No smog. Early 1600, so the alternator is on the passenger side.

If I had the time and money, I'd start with a fresh harness. :(
