[Roadsters] Repainting knob letters (was "RE: Interior metal finishing")

Maybe related, maybe not, but I colored in the engravings on my wife's gun for
her (she wanted a pink gun, pink engravings would have to do). Anyway, the
first attempt was to melt a crayon and rub it into the engravings, then rub
the excess with tissue or paper towel. Worked well, but with the heat of the
gun, it would eventually melt out. What is in there now is a little more
appropriate for a chic gun, fingernail polish. Paint it in, scrape the excess
off with stiff paper, let dry and then wipe off the excess with Hoppes gun
cleaner. I tried acetone but it was too strong and ended pulling most of the
polish out. By the way, if you saw my wife, you'd never expect her to be
someone that is packing. 5'2" and 100lbs in a dress suit.

Yup. I just used White Out on two knobs on my 411. The trick is getting the
excess off. I used Goof Off. Took several tries. Far from perfect, but
waaaaaay better than before.
FWIW, the "W" knob was easier than the "L". <g>

I think White Out has been used for the letters. You can polish the knobs,
then apply and wipe off the excess.

Also, any ideas for repainting the letters on the dash knobs.
Thanks
